
Use RJ-45 or RJ-11 Jacks. When using the 6-pin RJ-11, instead of the 8-pin RJ-45, there is no Signal D, nor the undefined pin.
Looking into jack, with tab down and connector pickup wires on top, going left-to-right across the top, the signals are:
Control signals A thru D are TTL levels.

Use 2, 4, 6, or 8-wire cable as appropriate, with crimp-on modular plugs, to make the interconnects. Plugs, cable, and crimp tools are available from Radio Shack, Home Depot, etc.
